Join the Ontario Federation of Labour and CUPE Ontario for our second installment of the “Building Power in Our Communities” online training sessions on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. In this activist training series, the collective strength of the Power of Many and Communities Not Cuts campaign come into collaboration on a province-wide initiative to bring the people of Ontario together to fight for decent work, public services, equality, justice, and safe and healthy communities for all.

Tell your friends to join us on Wednesday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. for a chance to win a COVID Activist Kit prize package.

In our first session on August 19 we discussed what engagement is, building structure at the community level, creating ways to go beyond electoral politics, what some of the barriers to engagement are, and engaging to ensure success.

We also did training on social media strategy mapping, building a social media following and best practices for social media accessibility.

Additionally, we discussed key principles for effective organizing in this era of pandemic with an intersectional equity lens, ways of doing direct action while facing the unique challenges posed by COVID-19, and different types of tactics for outreach and mobilization.

Our September 23rd session will include training on Canva, an easy to use online graphic design platform that integrates images, fonts, illustrations and templates which allows users to create stunning social media graphics, presentations, posters, documents and other visual content for free from your desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile device, and on best practices for media outreach, contacting your local media, and influencers.

We will also be going into regional breakout rooms for folks to do some planning for direct action in the form of banner drops, car cavalcades, sidewalk art, media strategies, etc. for the World Day for Decent Work on October 7th.

Together, workers, their families, and our communities are coming together to fight back against the Ford Conservative government’s agenda and demand that the government provide the strong public services Ontario families need.

OFL and CUPE are united in our efforts to protect jobs, protect our communities and protect the vital public services our members, our friends and families rely on every single day.

We want more people at our next training session. Whoever brings the most new people to our September 23 training session gets a prize of a COVID Activist Kit which includes hand sanitizer, masks, car paint, a sheet to make a banner, individually wrapped snacks, and a megaphone.

So tell your friends to join us on Wednesday, September 23 at 7:00 p.m. for a chance to win the COVID Activist Kit prize package.
