Workers have the legal right to be protected from hazards on the job. When hazards go unaddressed, workers suffer the most.

Every April 28, a National Day of Mourning we remember workers who have been injured, made ill or killed on the job. On this day and every day, CUPE supports those who seek what the law promises, safe and healthy work.

This year again, Niagara District CUPE Council is helping to promote Day of Mourning (DOM) events in communities across Niagara. This year’s campaign message encourages full employer accountability and meaningful worker participation in pursuit of safer, healthier work. Important supports for this pursuit include: laws and regulations that are specific and enforced; quality training focused on workplace hazards, not worker behaviours; and sufficient trusted resources to get the job done.
