39K is not enough: Good deal now – CUPE Ontario
After a historic pushback by workers and allies from every community in Ontario, the Ford Conservatives blinked, promised to repeal legislation that imposed a bad contract on the lowest-paid education workers, and returned to the bargaining table.
It’s an incredible victory that speaks to the solidarity of our movement and to just how necessary, reasonable, and affordable the demands of 55,000 education workers, members of CUPE’s Ontario School Boards Council of Unions (OSBCU), are.
But our work is just getting started. Now that we’re back at the bargaining table, let’s remember that $39,000/year is not enough and it’s time for a good deal now. Please watch the video as to why we need a good deal now.
Many members of OSBCU are struggling to make ends meet while they keep our schools running. And the Ford Conservatives have cut billions from our public education system, leading to staff shortages and the end of services students need.
We’re in a critical moment and we must take that energy we saw in the 126 political protests across the province and use it to send a powerful message to the Ford Conservatives: education workers, students, and communities must get a good deal now.
